Let's get into one of the most prominent and important topics we can in the online space. Showing up online. At this point it seems that just about everyone has some reason to show up, whether it is to share your life. Your side hustle (which at this point so few DON'T have one) or to learn and grow.

I want to acknowledge the fact that showing up online can feel like a balancing act. On one hand, you want to be visible and connect with your audience. On the other, you don’t want to feel like you’re performing or turning yourself into a brand version of you that doesn’t feel real.

A lot of the time, especially as an introvert it can feel like you are putting on a show. Like you have to be someone else to be well received online and off, and that simply is not true. You can (and should) be yourself online and offline, even if that's awkward. Who you are is what will bring the right people to you.

So, how do you show up online in a way that feels true to who you are—without losing yourself in the process?

1. Define What “Authenticity” Means to You

Authenticity looks different for everyone. What feels natural for one person may feel forced for another. Instead of trying to match someone else’s online presence, ask yourself:

  • What do I want people to really know about me?
  • How do I naturally communicate in real life?
  • What parts of my journey feel good to share, and what’s just for me?

2. Share From a Place of Truth, Not Just Trends

Trends can be fun, but if they make you feel off, skip them. You don't need to do all of the latest trends to be able to connect and grow a community.

Instead, focus on:
âś… Telling real stories from your own experiences.
âś… Sharing what you genuinely love and believe in.
âś… Showing up in ways that feel comfortable to you (not just what “works” for others).

This is what will make the biggest difference in your confidence. Typically I see that when we do things because they are trendy, and not authentic to us...it doesn't feel good. How cool is it to be 100% you AND confident. Win, win!

3. Create Before You Consume

It’s easy to scroll and compare before even creating your own content. This is particularly true when life is crazy busy and we look to social media as an outlet to "relax" (no shame, just acknowledgment). What really happens though, is - these programs are not created to help you relax. They are created to keep you scrolling, to keep you comparing, to keep you sucked in.

I have been there - a lot. I have every intention on creating something for my audience and then start "finding inspiration". Well, an hour or so later, nothing is created and I just spent an hour comparing my journey to someone else's. Not ideal for my work OR my confidence.

If you find that you wasted all of the creative time you gave yourself for the day, try this:

  • Post something before scrolling.
  • Write from your own thoughts before checking what others are saying.
  • Trust your unique voice before seeking inspiration.

4. Set Boundaries to Protect Your Energy

Being online 24/7 isn’t necessary. In fact, it's incredibly damaging to your confidence. I promise that if you take some time away, those who were looking for you and want to hear from you with either - reach out to you directly or still be there when you are back.

This is your sign to give yourself permission to:
âś” Take breaks.
âś” Not share everything.
âś” Focus on impact over always being on.

Whether you are online for work, for your own growth, or to connect with others - it is important to remember that social media was created and curated now to keep you online. And, that there is plenty of life outside of your phone. Changing how you approach online use can have incredibly positive effects on you and your confidence.

Most importantly remember: The right people will connect with the real you. Show up as yourself, and your presence will feel effortless.
